Handling Substance Abuse Professionally

Drug Free Workplace  -  It works for everyone

For the employers:  Your employees are your single most valuable asset. For that reason, the health and safety of the workforce is of paramount concern. Good companies take considerable pride in the work there employees perform. While the Company has the greatest respect for the privacy of its employees, it must be understood that a DFWP Company cannot tolerate alcohol and/or drug abuse. Such negligence threatens the ability of the employer to maintain a safe, healthy, and efficient environment, which enhances the welfare of all the employees.

In certain aspects of operations a Company is required to comply with the rules of the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) Drug Free Saftey Program (DFSP ) formerly the Drug Free Workplace Program (DFWP). In so doing, the Company takes steps to address the problem of substance use that negatively affects the workplace for the safety of the employee, his coworkers and ultimately for the public that consume the products the company makes or the services the company provides. Therefore being concerned with the health and well being of all employees it cannot condone behaviors on the part of employees that relate to substance abuse.

Management, if committed to a Drug-Free Workplace, establishes clear guidelines for acceptable and unacceptable employee behavior for everyone in the workplace and should intend to hold everyone responsible for supporting the policy by implementing

  • A written policy that clearly spells out the program and consequences.
  • Annual substance awareness education for all employees.
  • Training for supervisors regarding their responsibilities.
  • Drug and alcohol testing, is the most effective way to change harmful substance use behaviors that might show itself in the workplace

The director is a licensed attorney able to interpret rule and regulation while drafting your policies to satisfy the statutory requirements of the Ohio Law.

Training is our specialty at Columbro Consultation Services. Our introduction to the Drug-Free Workplace Program does not imply it to be an "I got you program", rather that the program is about safety. Columbro Consultation Service, Inc. can provide that introduction and training.

The Bureau of Workers' Compensation Premium Reduction Program demands a written substance abuse policy, Employee educational and supervision training.

Implimentation of the program or refreasher training can be provided on site at reasonable rates and is easily established without using a third party adminsitrator or workers compensation risk managment team.

Call the traininer directly and set your on site training at a time and location convienent for your company.
